Last year I attended some late night life drawing classes. One of the final classes rather than drawing we used clay to create little sculptures of the subject. I really enjoyed the process and my work turned out better than I expected.
This year I haven’t had the time to attend classes again but I still really want to draw from “life”. I thought what’s the next best thing? Drawing from a small sculpture, but first I need one. So begun the my journey in to sculpting.
Apart from the once off in class I haven’t done it before and I needed some material. I didn’t have the money for expensive polymer or traditional clay. I decided to buy some simple bulk plasticine from a local craft store. That way I can practice and see if I want to take sculpting more seriously later.
The image above is my second attempt, which I’ve been working on and off for the last month.
